45 nm Quad Core Processors

“It is the biggest change in transistor technology in 40 years”as Gordon More says, Intel’s co-founder.  The 45nm silicon technology is the latest generation of Intel’s Core microarchitecture.  The density is twice that of the 65nm technology.  Intel’s 45nm core is able to pack more that 800 million transistors in a single silicon chip.  And with this technology it is able to increase 50 percent of the L2 cache, and improve levels of energy efficiency.  Cache is a block of memory built inside the processor for temporary storage area of data where it is mostly accessed.

The 45nm processor is a breakthrough in transistor design which allowed Intel to continually bring PC, laptop, and server processors at faster speeds, using a combination of hafnium based high-k gates and metal gate transistors.  The processors are based on the 45nm high-k silicon technology able to bring a lot of technological advancements in the hardware and software performance.
